It doesn’t really matter that the opposing team wasn’t that interested in tight defense; the game wasn’t really the point at that point anyway.
Yesterday afternoon, Lauren Hill, dying of cancer but with a dream to play a college basketball game for her Cincinnati-area school, got the first basket. She’d made her point with the points.
The Xavier field house has been sold out for weeks. The game was moved up on the schedule so she could play while she was still able to.
“I’ve never felt so good in my entire life,” she said.
It may be the only college basketball game she’ll ever play. But there’ll be a Lauren Hill game in her honor every year.
